{"id":80,"date":"2010-01-24T06:54:09","date_gmt":"2010-01-24T14:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dansmith.cc\/blog\/?p=80"},"modified":"2010-01-24T06:54:09","modified_gmt":"2010-01-24T14:54:09","slug":"a-week-with-chrome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/?p=80","title":{"rendered":"A week with Chrome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m always interested in using alternative browsers.\u00a0 I used many of the different <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Netscape_Navigator\">Netscape Naviagator<\/a> releases, I have tried <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Internet_Explorer_for_Mac\">Internet Explorer for the Mac<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icab.de\/\">iCab<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opera.com\/\">Opera<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/safari\/\">Safari<\/a>.\u00a0 Each of these browsers had many things I liked, but many things I didn&#8217;t like.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a fan of the Mozilla browsers, starting with the\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www-archive.mozilla.org\/products\/mozilla1.x\/\">Mozilla Suite<\/a>, then transitioning to Phoenix\/FireBird\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/\">FireFox<\/a>. I&#8217;ve been pretty much a FireFox devotee for quite a few years now.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve watched Google&#8217;s efforts with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/chrome\">Chrome<\/a> for awhile.\u00a0 I was impressed with how fast it rendered pages, and how fast Javascript programs ran on it.\u00a0 Once\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xmarks.com\/\">XMarks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/extensions\/detail\/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom\">Adblock<\/a> became available for Chrome, I thought I&#8217;d try out Chrome for a week on my laptop at work.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed how fast Chrome rendered many pages.\u00a0 However, it wasn&#8217;t nearly as compatible as Firefox was on some random webpages.\u00a0 (For example, my company uses <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journyx.com\/\">Jourynx<\/a> for timekeeping; Firefox rendered it perfectly, while Chrome showed some weird issues).\u00a0 I was also disappointed in the AdBlock implementation for Chrome,\u00a0 which loaded the images from the (slow) adservers (I&#8217;m looking at you doubleclick), then removed them from the screen, while the Firefox <a href=\"http:\/\/adblockplus.org\/en\/\">Adblock<\/a> doesn&#8217;t even try to download those links.<\/p>\n<p>So&#8230;after a week of Chrome, I&#8217;m still a Firefox devotee&#8230;however, if Chrome gets an equivalent ablocking solution, and continues to improve webpage compatibility, I might think about switching over&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m always interested in using alternative browsers.\u00a0 I used many of the different Netscape Naviagator releases, I have tried Internet Explorer for the Mac, iCab, Opera and Safari.\u00a0 Each of these browsers had many things I liked, but many things I didn&#8217;t like.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a fan of the Mozilla browsers, starting with the\u00a0 Mozilla [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,26,5],"tags":[54,55,53],"class_list":["post-80","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-computers","category-personal","category-software","tag-chrome","tag-computer","tag-firefox"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/80","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=80"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/80\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":83,"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/80\/revisions\/83"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=80"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=80"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dansmith.cc\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=80"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
